This article addresses the Mariana (MG) disaster, focusing on the transformations that occurred in the Church of Santo Antônio. The objective is to analyze how the church, throughout different historical moments, can be understood as an example of heterotopia, according to the notion developed by Foucault (1967). To this end, we base ourselves on Foucault' s theoretical and methodological reflections on heterotopias. The article concludes that the identification of heterotopias in the Church of Santo Antônio indicates the coexistence of multiple temporal and spatial realities, offering a reflection, through the metaphor of the mirror, in which the projection made between the " Old Church of Santo Antônio" and the " New Church of Santo Antônio" is not valid, since churches only exist as real, but merely symbolize a reflection of what they once were.
